Terms of use

Last updated [date]

Draft. This text is a starting point and has not been reviewed by a lawyer yet. Bracketed items still need filling in.

These terms are an agreement between you and [legal entity name] ("we") for using Shortbread. By creating an account you agree to them.

The service

Shortbread helps you track your money: balances, transactions, net worth, goals and related reports. It is an information tool. It does not hold or move money, and it is not a bank, broker or financial adviser.

Not financial, tax or legal advice

Figures, projections, freedom numbers, tax summaries and AI answers are estimates based on the data you provide and on third-party sources such as exchange rates and prices. They can be wrong or out of date. Check important numbers yourself and talk to a qualified professional before making financial or tax decisions.

Your account

  • You must be at least 18 and give accurate details.
  • Keep your password, authenticator and backup codes safe. You're responsible for activity on your account and for the people you invite to your workspace.
  • Tell us straight away at security@shortbread.money if you think your account has been compromised.

Your data

You own the data you put in Shortbread. You give us permission to store and process it only to run the service for you, as described in our privacy policy. You can export or delete it at any time.

Connected services

Bank feeds, sign-in and optional AI features rely on third-party providers. Their availability and accuracy are outside our control, and their own terms apply to your use of them.

Acceptable use

Don't use the service to break the law, to access data that isn't yours, to probe or overload our systems outside a responsible disclosure, or to resell it without our written permission.

Early access and price

The service is free during early access and may change as we build it. If we introduce paid plans, we'll tell you at least [notice period] before you're charged anything, and you can export your data and leave instead.

Availability and liability

We work to keep Shortbread available and your data safe, but the service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, including that it is accurate, complete or fit for a particular purpose. To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect losses or for decisions you make based on the service, and our total liability is limited to [liability cap]. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be excluded, including the Australian Consumer Law.

Ending

You can delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms, and we'll give notice where we reasonably can.

Changes and law

We may update these terms and will tell you about significant changes before they apply. These terms are governed by the laws of [jurisdiction].
